Who we are
SS Maison is a trading name of Aksona Danatarova, a sole trader based in London, United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@ssmaison.co.uk. Postal address: SS Studio, Lytchett House, 13 Freeland Park, Wareham Road, Poole, Dorset, BH16 6FA, United Kingdom. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office, registration number ZC288936.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address.
- Photos you upload: photos of your rooms and gardens, the designs we create from them, and a tiny black-and-white copy of each (192 pixels wide) used only to check that walls and windows stayed in place. Photos of a home can show personal things: please leave out people, documents, house numbers and anything else you'd rather not share.
- Your choices: the space type, styles and budget you pick, so we can show your designs and shopping list again.
- Your style profile: the answers you give in "Find your style" (colours, materials, designers you like, whether you rent, who lives with you, budget and shops). We use them to personalise your designs and shopping list. Until you sign in they stay only in your own browser; once you sign in they are saved to your account, and you can change them any time from your account.
- Payment details: handled by Stripe. We see your name, email, billing address, plan and payment status — never your full card number.
- Technical data: IP address and basic server logs, kept for security and to fix problems.
- Visit statistics: daily totals only — how many people visited, which kind of site sent them, which plan they opened and whether they went on to pay. We don't use cookies for this and don't store IP addresses for it: a visitor is recognised for one day only by a scrambled code that is discarded at the end of the day.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To provide the service you pay for: create your account, redesign your rooms, show the shopping list, take payment, sign you in. Basis: contract.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse. Basis: legitimate interests.
- To keep accounting and tax records. Basis: legal obligation.
- To send emails about your account, such as sign-in links and receipts. We don't send marketing emails unless you ask for them.
- To see how many people visit and where they stop, using the daily totals above. Basis: legitimate interests.
Who processes data for us
- Google (Gemini API) — creates the redesigned images from your room and garden photos. We use the paid API, under which Google does not use your content to improve its products.
- Stripe — payments and invoices.
- Resend — sign-in emails (sent from Ireland, EU).
- Fly.io — runs the app and stores your files on servers in London.
Some of these providers process data in the United States. Where they do, transfers are covered by the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Shop links
The "Shop this room" list links to UK retailers and makers. When you follow a link you are on the retailer's own website and its privacy notice applies. Some links are affiliate links: an affiliate network (Awin, Webgains, Partnerize, Skimlinks or Sovrn) may set a cookie on the retailer's site so that the retailer can credit us with a small commission if you buy. This never changes the price you pay, and we don't see what you bought. We don't set any of these cookies on our own site.
How long we keep it
- Room photos and designs: deleted automatically 30 days after you upload them, unless you choose "Keep this room". Kept rooms stay until you delete them, or until 30 days after you close your account.
- Account details: while your account is open, then 30 days.
- Payment and invoice records: as long as UK tax law requires (at least five years after the relevant tax return deadline).
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
Cookies
We use two cookies, both strictly necessary, so we don't ask for consent: ssm_session keeps you signed in, and ssm_checkout (up to 2 hours) signs you in automatically after you pay, in the same browser. We don't use advertising or analytics cookies.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. Email us and we'll reply within one month. You can delete any room at any time inside the app.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Changes
If we change this notice in a way that matters, we'll email account holders before it takes effect.
